Out of the 71 ideas presented in the video, I particularly appreciated the ones concerning learning blogs, powerpoint presentations, and learning games to motivate students in the classroom. Although using skype and mobile phones would be fun and an innovative diversion from traditional class curriculum, I believe that students should only be allowed to use these particular forms of technology minimally and with clear parameters. With that said, as a future teacher, I would definitely use powerpoint and incorporate interactive learning games, such as "Jeopardy", into my class lessons and use classroom blogs to help facilitate students' learning on current issues and course materials.
Currently, I am an OP student at Stevenson Middle School and they have a system in place for students to log onto individualized computer accounts to draft and revise persuasive papers. I think that this is an excellent method for students to become acquainted with technology and improve their writing skills. Teachers can view each student's account to see the up-to-date revisions on the assigned papers and give feedback in a timely manner. This saves teachers time on grading and assessments. Students also seem motivated to learn writing skills in this manner because of prompt feedback and the option to revise numerous times before submitting a final draft.
Overall, I believe that the more we, as teachers, incorporate technology into our classroom lessons, the more our students will be engaged in the class material and be motivated to pursue further inquiry into the topics discussed in class. Effective use of powerpoint can enhance a class lesson. The use of interactive games is also a fun and simple way of imbedding knowledge into young minds in a way that captures their attention. However, sometimes the way to using technology in classrooms is met with some challenges. Although using blogs would be beneficial for students' learning, not all students might have access to a computer. Some schools might have inadequate funding and be unable to provide computer programs such as the one currently at Stevenson Middle School. Although using technology in classrooms would be a great educational asset to me as a teacher, I am well aware that the road to achieving this will not always be easy.

Jeannie,
ReplyDeleteHey there. You're definitely right on about teachers/students being limited to the technology that the school we're in possess. However, your ideas about using games, effective powerpoints, and the computer system of editing in your school seem like great ideas. I especially like the idea of the computer program Stevenson School has due to its formative assessment process being so effective. Quick feedback is, fortunately and unfortunately, key for our students in this era of technology, and it seems like your middle school realizes this and has done something about it!
Thank you for the insight and realism in your blog... ciao!
Aloha Jeannie,
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting your thoughts. You bring up a good point that technology integration can be challenging in many aspects.
I am glad you found many ideas useful for your own classroom. I think the constant challenge will be to examine the appropriateness of the technology integration and this may depend on case by case.

Hi Jeannie!
ReplyDeleteI like your realistic ideas about using technology in the classroom. Keeping Skype and cellphones out of the classroom would probably be a better learning environment for students (personally, because I think students would abuse it). I also love the idea of Jeopardy in the classroom. I always enjoy playing Jeopardy in class, especially when it right around exam time! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jeannie,
ReplyDeleteVery true about the limitations of technology in the classroom in regards to funding. Not many schools have the resources to incorporate the technologies that we are learning about into their classrooms. Even powerpoint needs a computer, projector, and a blank area to display it on. Some classrooms, if not many, cannot supply just that.
However, I'm glad that you're optimistic about technology use in the classroom. I too want to promote the effective use of powerpoint, learning games, and blogging. I see them as great tools to enhance student learning and as ways to pique student interest and get them more actively involved in their learning.
Hi Jeannie!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your opinion about ICT, I'vw been thinking about how the technology can be more effective not only for students bout also for teachers because You mentioned that "Although using technology in classrooms would be a great educational asset to me as a teacher, I am well aware that the road to achieving this will not always be easy.". I think this is very important things to incorperate ICT in the classroom. If a teacher is not accustomed to using computer and technology resources, it will be a disaster and less impacts to students even can make students confused.
I also like your ideas like "I believe that students should only be allowed to use these particular forms of technology minimally and with clear parameters." I usually think about too much techniques would cause more harmful effects. Your ideas make me clear to understand about incorporating ICT into the class
Thank you!
